The English 10.5 Critical Paper

This is a five-page paper that makes a single, controlled point about The Catcher in the Rye using quotes and details from the novel, as well as quotes from at least three secondary sources (professional critics) to help defend your thesis.

Your paper will be typed, double-spaced, and follow all guidelines from the North Penn Writing Guide. You will use MLA-style parenthetical citations to give proper credit to the author of every secondary source article you quote (a minimum of ten quotes from these three critics is required). A Works Cited page should appear on the final page of your paper (this will appear on what is at least the SIXTH page, since your paper is expected to be five FULL pages).

HOW THIS WORKS...

1) Log in to your wikispaces account. If you can not remember your password or email address, see your teacher for assistance. If you are unable to connect to your old account, please create a new account immediately, write down your user name and password, and save these in a secure place. Log in, then join this page!

2) Click on your name (below, not in the navigation bar to the left). This will take you to the page where you will be submitting your work to be graded.

The 10th grade Critical Paper is taught as a process. Therefore, the steps you will take as you complete and turn in each part of the writing process will count for points. In fact, the points for completing each step of the process are almost DOUBLE the value of your final paper, so DON'T FALL BEHIND! :)

3) Follow the directions and due dates on your page to submit each step of your paper.
